We lead clients in structured idea generation/evaluation sessions based on the Pugh Analysis Method which assists the design team in selecting the best design direction for the project. This process stimulates design team members to create concepts that are innovative, easy to manufacture and that will satisfy the user’s needs. Pugh Analysis helps to eliminate misdirected efforts that result in projects falling behind schedule and over budget.
This process calls for a review of the user’s needs, market concerns, manufacturing concerns and existing products. Concepts are reviewed, evaluated and rated for the ability of the design to satisfy predetermined criteria. Pugh Analysis provides a record of concepts considered, their pros and cons and the rationale behind decisions made and design directions taken. Following this method results in a documented process that provides a beginning paper trail from concept to series production, as well as capturing other concepts that can be explored at a later date. This method helps to protect intellectual property as well as building the foundation for a successful design effort.
